Steampunk Star Wars: Han Solo & Mr. Chewbacca

"I'll be bored of this in a week and start drawing dogs wearing hats or something."

Then I thought, "Why can't it be both?"

Han Solo & Mr. Chewbacca
Han Solo is a notorious gambler, con artist and smuggler. Mr. Chewbacca is his Wookiee partner in crime. The duo is wanted by both the Empire and a number of underworld crime lords, but they manage to stay one step ahead of their pursuers thanks to their ship, the Millennium Falcon, said to be the fastest ship in the galaxy. Solo is also known for his quick draw with a pistol. He boasts that of all the men he's shot, not a single one was able to shoot first.

The Millennium Falcon should totally be a zeppelin!

A dirigible!

Han Solo & Mr Chewbacca. Fuck. Yeah. Now I want to go play Arcanum again.

your work is amazing, man. many props.

but, as much as fun as you're having making inspired odes to Star Wars (the shared ur-mythos of so many of us), your Han and Chewie characters are good enough and different enough to be stars of their own story. your steam-punk world seems highly funcitionally imagined. i could see these guys in an Alan Moore meets Akira/anime world.

i'd say, start building new characters to go with these guys, give them some adventures, let's see them exploring more of this world.

you're only a step away from a great comic book or movie pitch (or Adult Swim half-hour!).

cheers.

Ha. Nice.

The Han character looks too sleazy to be han solo. And stay with the star wars idea, don't try taking those two characters and giving them their own thing. That would just be way too below your potential. And I like the airship idea.

Lucas Skywalker "I got him! I got him, Han!"

Han Solo; "Brilliant boy, now don't go getting cocky on me!"

Dutchess Leia; "I do belive I'd prefer kissing a Wookie!"

Han Solo; "Carefull milady, I CAN arrange that!"

And here was I, foolishly believing that the original Chewbacca could not be improved upon.

I would buy a print of this... w/o hesitation.

Oh, yes, champion workmanship here. I don't even mind that Chewie doesn't have a more traditional bowcaster. (Although a steam/dynamo-powered crossbow the size of a swingset would be pretty steampunky.)

You know, they kind of give me a strange sort of Holmes and Watson vibe. Is that too weird?

Miriam said...

Holy crap, this is beautiful. It makes me actually like SW.

And I too am getting a Holmes/Watson vibe. Except I think Chewie would make a better Holmes.

Awsome stuff! and is it just me or does Han's pistol look an awful lot like Mal's (from firefly) not to mention Chewie's very fine hat!

Han so needs a stripe down the leg of his pants in this graphic. Beautiful images btw.

I can't wait to see the steampunk Falcon!

Averjoe said...

It may just be me, but shouldn't the Steampunk Han Solo speak with a Cockney accent?

Bleedin' beautiful.

"Not a single one was able to shoot first."

...Not even that sneaky Chinaman Greedo.

jeremy: I'm definitely planning to incorporate some zeppelin inspiration into some of the ships.

joshua: Thanks! I was working on an original steampunk space opera world a few months ago, but I only got one or two pieces done before I got bored with it. I may revisit it again in the future though, and incorporate some of the ideas I generated while working on this series.

eccentric: I've had a lot of requests for prints, so I'm looking into that. I'm not sure if I'll be able to offer prints of these though, seeing as the copyrights to these characters don't belong to me.

eliot: I got the same vibe as I was working on the image.

groovehouse: I think you're right. I totally forgot about the stripe.

Everyone else: Thanks!

He's not a quick draw with that holster. It's for lefties and he's holding the gun in his right hand. Sorry.

Eric said...

Damn - I blew it. He's got TWO guns and TWO holsters. What can I say - old eyes.

I figured Chewie would be black in Steampunk. Figure: African slave.

Just wanted to say: totally sweet. Keep up the good work, I'm really impressed.

Of the three, this is, I think, the bast image. It captures the steampunk world down to Solo's limp wrist--a mark of the duelist.

I kept thinking about the ships. In a steam world, the ship would be larger than in classic Star Wars, which means reduced cargo space, which means more ships are needed. A grand time.

I look forward to seeing story here as well.

'steampunk plus star wars. i've died and gone to redheaded nerd steampunk geek heaven.'

Seconded.

Millennium Falcon as a dirigible, though? Hmm... I think capital ships would make better zeppelins. The Falcon should be some kind of fully customised Wright Bros-style jalopy with wing-struts poking out at every conceivable angle. It still has to be the 'fastest ship in the fleet', so we're talking an airspeed of at least 40 knots in a headwind.

Wow, this is really great. A few things.

Chewy looks really cool, but together it looks like a steampunk han/chewie, mixed with steampunk sherlock/watson mixed with steampunk shaggy/scooby doo. still a very fetching design.

I agree that the falcon needs to be something other than a dirigible, they're much too slow. I could see a wright bros jalopey, or a early whirlybird, something like a manipulated davinci aero-screw.

Last thing, totally awesome points for making mention that NO ONE has ever drawn a gun on Han, EVER.

You sir are an artistic (and otherwise) genius. Steam Punk Star Wars... Everything looks great! keep it coming!

Some thoughts. Luke in an X-Wing Bi Plane. Star Destroyer zepplins, Obiwan as an old Nikola Teslsa. Clockwork C3P0 and steam boiler R2. And of course Steam Punk Boba Fett!

Something about the chewwie doesnt sit right though. What about instead of a sort of watson-hound... More of a Gorilla Passepartout?

My brother often go to the internet bar to buy kamas and play it.
After school, He likes playing games using these cheap kamas with his friend.
I do not like to play it. Because I think that it not only costs much money but also spend much time. One day, he give me many dofus gold and play the game with me.
I came to the bar following him and found buy dofus kamas was so cheap. After that, I also go to play game with him.
