Steampunk Star Wars: Jabba the Hutt

Jabba the Hutt

Jabba the Hutt is the ruler of the desert planet Tattooine. Formerly an underworld crime boss, Jabba took the throne in a bloody coup. It's rumoured during the coup he was being supplied weapons by the Empire, but once in power he turned his back on them and continued his illegal activities with far more power and wealth than he could have ever amassed in the underworld.

Jabba is a model of opulence and excess. His corpulence is the physical embodiment of all seven mortal sins. He dresses only in fine Sarlacc silks, regularly partakes in feasts of rare and endangered animals such as the giant Krayt Dragon, and has a harem of concubines representing every humanoid species known in the galaxy.

Totally awesome.

What medium did you use. At first I thought these were all done on a computer. But now, I'm not so sure. Were they? If so, what software did you use? If not, how did you created them?

christopher: Added!

friend of earth: I'm working on more. A new one should be up within the next couple days.

eliot: For now I'm sticking to the original trilogy, but if I get any ideas that I just have to do, I might start dipping into the prequels.

shawnhcorey: These images are indeed digital. I do almost all my work in Photoshop.

Everyone else: Thanks!

Oh, that is fabulous! I like all of them so far.

Now I'm thinking of other re-imaginings: In the 1940s pulp version of Star Wars, Jabba would be played by Sydney Greenstreet, and Han would be Humphrey Bogart (hmmm, and Greedo would be Peter Lorre, natch)...

No doubt about it - you are an Artist! Oh, and great first name!

Hi Eric: I thought you'd like to know that your Jabba picture sparked an interesting discussion on depictions of race in Pulp art over at Story Games.

It would be kind of weird for us to talk about you "behind your back" so I came back to give you the links in case you're interested:

This is the first mention of your art:
Stuff To Watch: March 2007

Then we talk specifically about race stuff here:
Racism in Artwork

If you'd like to respond, the second thread is probably the better one.

John Harper: Hey, thanks for the heads up. I just have to wait for my membership to go through before I can join the conversation.

Are you going to do Padme or Leia?

Thanks for posting on SG, Eric! And extra special thanks for taking the criticism so well, and being open and honest about the issues. You rock.
